City Prints

These city prints are beautiful but I can't really afford them at £95 for the set. Oh well, a girl can dream.

Annie Hall

"and Annie Hall is starting to seem quite a lot like you and me"

Friday, 29 October 2010

Recently I've had a lot of trouble sleeping, I lie awake for hours waiting for the next bus to to the land of nod, but it doesn't seem to come. I eventually fall asleep at 3 or 4am and as a result I usually remain comatose until well into the following afternoon. My body clock is completely screwed up and I don't know how to fix it. "take a bath before bed" they say "read a book, drink hot drinks, relax and empty your mind." I feel like yelling "I'VE TRIED ALL THOSE THINGS! JUST KNOCK ME OUT WILL YOU?!" I've tried everything apart from sleeping pills, I feel 18 is too young to be drugging myself up to the eyeballs, there's plenty of time for that later.

My mind just won't shut off, I find myself tossing and turning while making trivial lists in my head and working things out, like exactly how much I'm getting paid this week, exactly how much my boyfriend is getting paid this week, all my favourite movies in chronological order of release date, or every type of cereal I've ever eaten. I'm insane, I know, its exhausting. So after this mental gym session of list making why can't I sleep? Because my body hates me that's why.

Back (not in black)

What happened? Well my plans went slightly to seed and my year is looking very different, only a little more bleak. However everything happens for a reason and I carry on.
Blogging to me has always been a bit like scrapbooking, and I've never been brilliant at scrapbooking. I find when I get going on something I can really make it amazing, whether it's turning my bedroom into somewhere I actually want to be, doing an art project or an English essay, the end result is usually pleasing. The only thing is I'm possibly the most lazy person in the world (I'm a teenager, it's in my DNA, for now), I don't motivate myself very well and I have the attention span of a knat, on crack. I admit that's something I really need to work on. As a result of this huge flaw in my character, this blog has never really had much effort put into it, and has mainly just been random bits and pieces from around the internet, posted very sparsely. So today I thought why not throw some actual writing into the mix, share some of my disorganised and fleeting thoughts, tales of the follies of misspent youth, blah blah blah.

It'll probably be in dribs and drabs until I cure my laziness and inability to maintain a hobby, c'est la vie.

I love you?

Designer Barbie

*squee* that's what I do when I see shoes like that. I think there's a little barbie inside all of us, and mine loves Louboutins.

In Memory of a dress.

These photos are old old old. This dress was perfect, fitted bust and a pretty swingy skirt. Unfortunately it went on holiday to Japan with me two years ago and got left behind by accident. R.I.P flowery dress, you were loved.

A little sparkle

Necklace, River Island.

I bought this necklace on my shopping trip on Wednesday, it's like a cute little lego heart.

My boyfriend is kinda cute when he pretends to be sleeping so he doesn't have to get up.

Oh, Love Actually. You're a classic any time of year.

Shopping Addiction

Rain, rain, go away, come again another day.
Actually scratch that, don't come again. I'm fed up of such miserable weather in August. Well what else to do when it rains but stay indoors, or more precisely, in shops. As the weather has been pretty autumnal lately I found myself drawn to big jumpers and chunky heeled boots, especially ones with sheepskin lining *drool*. Whilst I haven't found the perfect boots yet, I did buy a few things.

1: H&M sequin top, 2: Dorothy Perkins Jumper, 3: New Look jacket

The last photo is a little blurry because I was losing light in my bedroom (oh how I wish I had a decent camera) but it's a lightweight, black, biker-esque jacket that will be perfect for slightly chilly days.

And this is what I wore for the rainy shopping trip to Lincoln today.

Cardigan, New Look. Playsuit, H&M, Vest, H&M. Shoes, Vintage.
I hate that I have to take dim, blurry, crappy photos wiith my phone in changing room mirrors. :( will someone buy me a camera and then take photos of me with it? thanks.

a little lift

Since finishing work at lunchtime today I was feeling so tired and sick. Turns out all I needed was a roast dinner and strawberry meringue (similar to the one above, I would've taken my own photo but I was too busy stuffing my face with summery goodness). Hopefully we'll get the good weather back soon.
I've been very busy this week in between working and making the most of my days off, but I do have a few posts in the pipeline for this week (with my own photos - gasp!), so expect posts about a graduation, a holiday and an exhibition or two.

feather headband, asos

Firstly (although the only people reading this are probably my best friend and myself) about the sporadic (and not very wordy) posts:
"I could stay here and write about my life or I could go to paris and live my life."
I've been so busy recently, working to earn money for university and making the most of my precious days off by spending time with special people. I also went away for a week to Turkey which was amazing, so refreshing to just get away, I'll post about that trip sometime in the next few days.

I ordered the feathered headband before I went on holiday, it arrived whilst I was away and I've been wearing it pretty much constantly since I got back. The feathers are so soft and strokeable, and it's interesting enough without being over the top as the colours are similar to my hair colour. My sister says it looks like something's died on my head but I refuse to believe that, it's fabulous and I know it.

On a different note, looking at my blog it's clear that I post a lot of screencaps and images I find on the internet. This saddens me because it means that I don't often make the effort to take my own pictures and put my own ideas and thoughts out there anymore. When I my old blog was still active I would post a lot and 85% of my posts included photographs taken by me and discussed my own life and my own outfits, however that was a couple of years ago when I had a lot more free time. Due to my life currently being consumed by working pretty much full time at a mind-numbing job, I can't often summon the energy to create original and interesting blog posts, but at least I can acknowledge that this is a fault I'd like to correct. From now on I will try and rectify this and make an effort to post things that are worthwhile reading.

Over and out.

Pretty In Pink

Although I love all of John Hughes films, Pretty In Pink has got to be best for style. Not only a brilliant portrayal of awkward adolescence, this film sees Molly Ringwald rocking some seriously cool outfits and I love that she manages to pull off stockings and florals without looking too grandma-chic (aka not chic at all). In fact much of the styling in this film is very similar to the most popular trends of 2010; pastel colours, floral prints, ankle socks, geek glasses and plenty of hats. People say everything eventually comes back into fashion and the clothes of Pretty In Pink are a prime example.

In terms of fashion, Molly isn't the only shining star, her friend Duckie (Jon Cryer) makes a pretty good go of it too.

I really wish those hollywood fat cats had let Hughes keep his original ending for Pretty In Pink which saw Andie ending up with Duckie instead of that wet blanket Blaine. Lets compare shall we? Duckie has amazing style (its all about the layering, and the beat up shoes of course), Blaine wears stupid white trousers and poorly fitting shirts. Also Duckie has some serious moves, his 'Try A Little Tenderness' performance in the record shop is just incredible, and he's really sweet (to the point of irritating, but thats ok) whereas Blaine blows Andie off under pressure from his tool friends ("What about prom Blaine?! What about prom?!), and let's not forget he's about as interesting as gravel.

Ok, rant over. But if you're a Hughes fan like me (and everyone else who's ever seen even 3 seconds of one of his films) then I recommend reading Jezebel's brilliant guide to the Hughes boyfriends. Personally, I'd give bad boy John Bender of The Breakfast Club more than a D, "Remember how you said your parents use you to get back at each other? Wouldn't I be OUTSTANDING in that capacity?", that just makes me melt.
